Transmedia Storytelling

Why I like it so much, there’s so much interesting information about it, I could go on about it for a loooong time.

I chose the topic of Transmedia Storytelling for my final research project.  I think it is one of those topics that I could go on and on about for a very long time.  My webpage explains this in more detail, but I wanted to still touch on how this topic really inspired me while doing my research.  I have another minor in Psychology and think that the way people think is a very interesting concept.  I found a quote in an article from a psychologist about Transmedia and how it can be thought about from a psychology perspective.  I think it is important to incorporate different perspectives like this when examining the media and its effects on society.  There are countless examples for transmedia taking place in our society.  It relates to so many other topics dealing with media in our society too, and I think it should be examined further to discover even more of its implications.  I look forward to learning more about it in the future, and think it was one of my favorite topics for learning about in this class.

Class Presentations

I wanted to make a short post about my observations from the class presentations for final projects on Monday.  I thought it was really interesting how it seemed as though the people who went to present for the first few presentations were building off of each other in a way.  Their topics seemed to build off on one another as each of them presented.  For example, the first topic was on Transmedia Storytelling, then YouTube and the music industry, then cyberbullying, then google and their online privacy, then online privacy in general.  It made me wonder if they coordinated before class, haha.  But I think all in all, I think this because all of these topics are related to convergence and media in our society.  This class has definitely made an impact on me, and I think I like it.

Zombie Article

My response to this article on our course blog was that it was very.. interesting.  But I mainly just wanted to say that, I hate zombies.  This is a true fear that I have.  I have a difficult time handling any movies, especially nowadays with all the special effects, where there are zombie chase scenes.  I know there have been comical movies made about them as well, but I still think that we should prepare, just in case zombies were to become real.  Just saying.

Reddit

I chose to do my ethnography assignment on Reddit.  It is a site similar to stumble upon, where users can make posts about basically anything they want.

As the site’s FAQ page states, “Reddit is made up of hundreds of sub-communities, each focused on a specific topic.  There's a reddit for science, a reddit for music, and probably a reddit for your nearest city.”  There is even a reddit for political news and opinions.  I think this related to our discussion in class about how the political campaigning scene has changed dramatically because of convergent media.  Reddit is another example of this because, even if the users don’t think so, they are actually advertising for politicians by getting their names out there.  Now, whether their posts are positive or negative, they are still making them more widely known.  The page link is here, and has new posts every few hours usually.  I enjoy going here to find out about news because the filtered and ranked information sifts through all the nonsense for me.

Yay Reddit!

Who gives a Tweet?

Angsty post.

I dislike Twitter.  For most of the tweets, I really just think, “Who cares?”  There are so many other ways to better spend your time.

It is a good resource to use for companies, and news stations, but as far as the tweets from celebrities and their like are concerned, I am beyond apathetic.

Forms of Transmedia

We’ve been talking about Transmedia lately, and I think it is a very interesting topic.  Especially because of how many different types of media it can include.

I think the response to an original source of media by using other forms of media is genius.  There are so many possibilities.  Wikipedia shows these different types of media, stating that creators can use multimedia materials including videos, animations, a website, a podcast, and games.

I’m looking forward to looking more into this topic, I think it would be a good start for a research paper.
