I’ve always had a deep appreciation for art. But when I say that, do you really know what
I mean by, “art”? What qualifies as
art? I think that everyone has their own
opinion on this, and that is totally okay.
Personally, I think of pictures mostly, and less of the 3D art like sculptures
and ceramics. I don’t mean to say that I
don’t like 3D art, but it just doesn’t affect me as much as pictures. The
saying, “A pictures is worth a thousand words,” holds true to my heart.
On that note, I’d like to say that I think my deep
appreciation of art comes from the feeling I get when I look at pictures. This goes for sketches, drawings, paintings, cgi
(computer-generated imagery), photographs, intensely edited computer photos, etc. When I look at these pictures, I feel
emotion. It really is that simple. I think that anyone who can create an object
that can make someone feel emotion has a wonderful gift. Of course, I have tried my hand at drawing,
but unfortunately, think I have come up short.
Now, painting. That is something
I enjoy very much.
In my opinion, it takes some form of creativity, or what I
like to call, creative-ness, to create art.
Dictionary.com defines creativity as “the state or quality of being
creative.” I do not think this
definition helps anyone much, but the second is, “the ability to transcend
traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships,
or the like, and to create meaningful new
ideas, forms, methods,
interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, or
imagination..”
This makes it sound like you have to be able to create something
meaningful and new. But who does it have
to be meaningful and new to?
I think there is a difference between these two terms
because a lot of people do not consider themselves to be creative, myself
included. I don’t think that anything I’ve
drawn has been new or meaningful. However,
I think I do have a sense of creative-ness.
I think this because of my appreciation of art. You can’t truly appreciate something that you
don’t have any relation to. When I see a
picture that makes me feel something inside, it is because something caused
that picture to affect me. This wouldn’t
happen if I didn’t have my own sense of creative-ness. It is also why I love to paint, because it
gives me emotion.
I do not have that much skill when it comes to painting, but
if I didn’t have a sense of creative-ness, I wouldn’t even try. And that is why. (rhymed!)
